Each edition contains 10+ different varieties of Japanese snacks, carefully selected to match the character and theme of the edition.

The exact selection can vary depending on availability and curation, so part of the experience is discovering what is inside your Castle.

What editions are available?

The Castle in Japan currently offers six different experiences:

Traditional Edition — a selection inspired by the snacks and flavors people typically associate with traditional Japan.

Elegant Edition – Inner Castle — a more refined, gift-driven edition designed for presents, special occasions and a more premium experience.

Tokyo Modern Edition — inspired by the snacks, flavors and trends you are more likely to encounter in Japan today.

Anime Edition — created for anime and Japanese pop-culture fans, with playful and colorful selections.

Tech Edition — our most personal edition, inspired by the founder’s IT career and interest in technology. It combines Japanese snack culture with a distinctive tech-inspired touch and design.

Beer Friend Edition — created after visitors repeatedly asked for more savory, non-sweet snacks. Despite the name, the edition is not about alcohol; it focuses on salty and savory snacks that are easy to enjoy and share.

Which edition should I choose?

That depends on the kind of Japan experience you want to discover or give as a gift.

Traditional Edition — choose this if you want the classic snacks and flavors people typically associate with traditional Japan.

Elegant Edition – Inner Castle — ideal for gifts, special occasions or when you want a more refined and premium presentation.

Tokyo Modern Edition — choose this if you are curious about the snacks, flavors and trends people enjoy in Japan today.

Anime Edition — made for anime and Japanese pop-culture fans, with playful and colorful selections.

Beer Friend Edition — the best choice if you prefer savory and salty snacks instead of mostly sweet treats. It was created from visitor feedback and does not contain or focus on alcohol.

Can I buy a box without a subscription?

Yes.

Our editions are available as a one-time purchase, with no subscription required.

A flexible monthly subscription is available as an optional way to continue the experience.

Are the boxes suitable as gifts?

Absolutely. The Castle in Japan is designed as a Japanese snack gift experience, whether you are buying it for someone else or treating yourself.

You can choose an edition based on the recipient's interests and taste.

Do I need to know which snacks the recipient likes?

No. Each edition is curated around a particular theme and atmosphere.

Choosing the edition that best matches the recipient is usually enough — we take care of curating the snack selection inside.

Will every box contain exactly the same snacks?

Not necessarily.

The character of each edition remains consistent, but individual snacks can change depending on curation, availability and the selections we believe best represent that edition.

This also means that returning customers can continue discovering new products.

Can I choose every snack in the box?

The standard editions are curated experiences rather than fully build-your-own boxes.

For subscription customers, up to 3 snack selections can be refined before the next shipment.

How does the subscription work?

The subscription is optional.

Subscription boxes are delivered and billed monthly and the subscription automatically renews each month.

There is no minimum commitment.

You can also purchase any edition as a one-time purchase instead.

Can I switch to a different edition for my next subscription box?

Yes. Your subscription does not have to stay with the same edition every month.

For example, if you subscribe to the Traditional Edition, you can ask to receive another edition, such as the Elegant Edition – Inner Castle, Tokyo Modern Edition, Anime Edition, Tech Edition, or Beer Friend Edition, for an upcoming delivery.

To change the edition for your next box, simply contact us before the next order is processed and tell us which edition you would like to receive.

This gives you the flexibility to explore different sides of Japan while keeping your subscription active.

Can I pause or cancel my subscription?

Yes.

Pause or cancel before your next billing date to prevent the next renewal.

If an order has already been charged, that order will still be fulfilled.

Can I change snacks in my next subscription box?

Subscription customers can refine up to 3 snacks before the next shipment.

This gives you some flexibility while preserving the curated character of each edition.

If you need help making a change, please contact us before your next shipment.

Do the snacks contain allergens?

Because every box contains a variety of different products, allergens vary from snack to snack.

Please always check the ingredient and allergen information provided for the individual product before consumption, particularly if you have allergies or intolerances.

If you have a serious food allergy and are unsure whether a box is suitable for you, please contact us before ordering.

Where can I find ingredient and nutritional information?

Ingredient, allergen and nutritional information is provided with the relevant product information and labeling where applicable.

Because selections can change, always check the information relating to the actual snack included in your box.

What is the best-before date of the snacks?

Individual snacks have their own best-before dates.

Where applicable, information about the earliest best-before date in the box is also provided with the box information.

How should I store the snacks?

Store the snacks in a cool, dry place, protected from heat, moisture and direct sunlight.

Always follow any additional storage instructions provided on the individual product.

Where do you deliver?

The destinations and shipping methods currently available to your address are shown during checkout.

How much does shipping cost?

Applicable shipping costs are shown during checkout before you complete your purchase.

Can I send the box directly to someone as a gift?

Yes. You can enter the recipient's delivery address during checkout and have the box delivered directly to them.
